Agreement of Strategic Cooperation with 11 Provincial Shipowners’ Associations

On May 29, Weihai Puyi Marine Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. held signing ceremony of strategic cooperation agreement with China Shipowners’ Association and 11 provincial shipowners’ associations. This event marks entrance of Chinese marine desulfurization equipment into the market, which will promote development of China’s shipping industry.

Since the beginning of this year, sulfur limit in emission control areas has been enforced, reducing maximum sulfur oxide emission in four regulated emission control areas from 1% to 0.1%. By 2020, sulfur cap of 0.5% will be enforced globally. So far none of the domestic ships under service are compliant, which means shipowners must make certain technical modification in the next five years to meet the regulations.

The marine exhaust gas cleaning system of magnesium method, jointly developed by Weihai Puyi Marine Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. and Dalian Maritime University, breaks technical barriers set by developed countries, innovatively adopting magnesium oxide as desulfurizing agent, which is much cheaper and safer than the traditional desulfurizer. Compared with similar products in the market, magnesium-based system has advantages of being more compact, compatible and cost-effective. This technology has passed inspection of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Transport, and successfully received approval from CCS.

At present, China Shipowners’ Association has more than 200 members, whose business volume makes up over 80% of the domestic volume. According to agreement between the two parties, Puyi will give priority to demands of shipowners of the association for desulfurization equipment. It is expected that the high cost performance of Puyi scrubber tower will help the company to take a larger share in the global market.
